BIG-Con Seminar in Helmstedt – April 2026
Finally April!
After a long winter we finally got a little bit of sun and spring. So the perfect time to commit to a week of boardgames in the name of education!
For our BIG-Con Seminar „Experiencing Society and History Through Boardgames“ we managed to secure the support of the „House by Lappwald“, the political education center in Helmstedt.
Besides the seminar games all around the themes of „society“, „democracy“ and „international relationships“ we also found a lot of time for more fun titles.
Enjoy some snapshots and impressions from an interesting and fun week!
In Hegemony: Lead your class to Victory the players got to try how workers, middle class, capital and the state deal with various historical crisis and challenges.
For our theme of „International Relations“ we had a number of rounds of Limit. The players take on the political leadership of a nation from the time of industrialisation all the way to the near future.
This allows them to experience how political decisions of a nation impact the world, markets and other nations while facing the various crisis that occur with unlimited growth in a limited world.
A more optimistic outlook for the future can be found in E-Mission. The world powers cooperate to meet the challenges of climate change..
The players learn about the specific challenges and resources that the various nations face in this
One special highlight was Gibberers. How can communication work without a shared language?
Step by Step the players build a vocabulary in a fantasy language and slowly go from simple basics to more and more complex terms and explanations
Apart from the Seminar games there was plenty of time for comfy and fun game rounds with titles like Dead Reckoning.
Spirit Island also found a few new fans.
And you can hardly have a week with boardgamers without some Terraforming Mars.
But wait there’s more!
